Rick Simpson Oil (RSO): Why It’s a Big Deal

As we celebrate Dab Week at HoneyGrove, let’s talk about one of the most powerful cannabis extracts out there: Rick Simpson Oil (RSO). This stuff is no joke, boasting a THC content around 90% or higher, making it one of the strongest cannabis products you can find.

Who the hell is Rick Simpson?

Rick Simpson, a Canadian medical marijuana activist, got into medical marijuana after a serious injury in 1997 left him with post-concussion syndrome and other health problems. When conventional treatments didn’t help, he turned to cannabis. Inspired by studies suggesting the anti-cancer potential of cannabinoids, he developed a method to extract a potent oil from cannabis plants. In 2003, he used cannabis oil to treat his skin cancer, applying it directly to the affected areas. Amazingly, the cancerous spots disappeared within days.

After experiencing what he believed to be successful treatment of his skin cancer, Rick Simpson became a passionate advocate for the medicinal use of cannabis, particularly his oil. He began producing and distributing RSO for free to patients in need, despite facing significant legal challenges and opposition from authorities. His story caught on, especially after the 2008 documentary “Run from the Cure: The Rick Simpson Story” brought his message to a wider audience.

How Is RSO Made?

RSO is made through a solvent extraction process, which goes like this:

  1. Solvent: Extract the good stuff using a solvent like ethanol or naphtha.
  2. Evaporation: Get rid of the solvent, leaving a concentrated oil.
  3. Purification: Clean the oil to remove any leftover solvents and impurities.

Uses and Benefits of RSO

While scientific research on the efficacy of RSO is still limited, numerous anecdotal reports suggest that it may help with various medical conditions, including cancer, chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety, and sleep disorders. RSO is celebrated for its potential therapeutic benefits, which include:

  • Pain Management: Thanks to its high THC content, RSO can provide significant relief for chronic pain conditions.
  • Anxiety and Depression: The oil may help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression due to its high concentration of cannabinoids.
  • Cancer Treatment: Some users report that RSO can help shrink tumors and treat cancer, although more research is needed to confirm these claims.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects: RSO may help reduce inflammation and manage symptoms of autoimmune diseases.
  • Sleep Aid: The sedative effects of THC in RSO can help with insomnia and improve sleep quality.
