How to Dab: A Beginner’s Guide to Dabbing

mona lisa dabbing

So you’re curious about dabbing? Well we’re here to tell you everything you need to know to make your dabbing experience start off on the right puff.

What is Dabbing?

Dabbing involves vaporizing cannabis concentrates, which are more potent than traditional flower. These concentrates come in many forms, such as wax, budder, and live resin to name a few. You’ll use a dab rig which is similar to a bong but designed specifically for concentrates.

Benefits of Dabbing

Why do we love dabbing? There’s a few reasons:

  • Potency: Concentrates have higher levels of THC, providing a more intense and immediate effect.
  • Flavor: The extraction process preserves terpenes, leading to more flavorful hits.
  • Efficiency: Dabbing requires less material to achieve the desired effects compared to smoking flower.

So it gets you higher, quicker, and using less product. Now do you see what all the fuss is about?

What You’ll Need

Ready to get your dab on? Great! Now you’ll need the right equipment, and you know HoneyGrove has you covered. Here’s a list of must-haves:

1. Dab Rig

A dab rig is a specialized water pipe designed for dabbing. It looks like a bong but has features specifically for vaporizing concentrates.

Recommended Dab Rigs:

  • Puffco Peak Pro: The Puffco Peak Pro is perfect for beginners and pros alike, with built-in nail/banger and carb cap, and four temperature presets for an optimal experience.

2. Torch

You’ll need a torch to heat the nail, vs a regular lighter.

Recommended Product:

3. Dab Tool

Also known as a dabber, this small tool is used to handle and apply concentrates onto the heated nail.

Recommended Product:

  • Puffco Hot Knife: Available in black and pink, the Puffco Hot Knife makes loading your concentrates simple, clean, and effective. Just hold down the button, and your oil drops right off in 3 seconds.

4. Concentrates

Cannabis concentrates come in many forms, including wax, live resin, and budder. Each type offers a unique texture, flavor profile, and potency. Be sure to explore HoneyGrove’s selection of high-quality concentrates during Dab Week for the best deals.

7. Cleaning Supplies

We recommend Grunge Off Cleaner to keep your rig clean, but Isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, and pipe cleaners will also do the trick.

Recommended Product:

  • Grunge Off Cleaner: This revolutionary cleaner works like magic to remove resin build-up and stubborn, stuck-on residue from your glass smoking products.

The Dabbing Process: Step-by-Step

Dabbing might seem intimidating at first, but once you do it once or twice, it’ll be just like sparking a blunt or taking a hit of your bong.

Follow these steps, and you’ll master it in no time!

1. Prepare Your Dab Rig: Make sure your dab rig is clean and assembled correctly. Fill the water chamber enough to filter but not splash into your mouth.

2. Heat the Nail: Use your torch to heat the nail until it’s red-hot, then let it cool for about 30-45 seconds to reach the ideal temperature.

3. Apply the Concentrate: Use your dab tool to place a small amount of concentrate onto the nail. Remember, a little goes a long way.

4. Cover with Carb Cap: Place the carb cap over the nail. This step helps control airflow and ensures your concentrate vaporizes efficiently.

5. Inhale the Vapor: Slowly inhale through the mouthpiece of the rig. Start with small dabs to gauge your tolerance.

6. Clean Up: After each dab, use a cotton swab dipped in Grunge Off Cleaner (or isopropyl alcohol if you don’t have any) to clean the nail. Keeping your equipment clean ensures the best flavor and performance.

Tips for a Better Dabbing Experience

  • Start Low and Slow: Begin with a small dab to understand your tolerance. Concentrates are potent, and a little goes a long way.

  • Temperature Matters: Experiment with different temperatures to find what works best for you. Lower temperatures (350°F-400°F) preserve flavor, while higher temperatures (400°F-450°F) produce more vapor.

  • Stay Hydrated: Dabbing can be intense, so drink plenty of water.

  • Use Quality Concentrates and Equipment: Invest in high-quality products for a safe and enjoyable experience.
